Seven days let you get to know Maceió fully: the sea along the city waterfront, the southern and northern beaches, the lagoon, the history and even a day trip to the São Francisco River. The secret is still the same: plan from the Maceió tide table and keep a free day for the unexpected.

Days 1 to 4: sea and lagoon
The first four days repeat the core of the 4-day itinerary: the Pajuçara pools and the city waterfront, the south coast, Mundaú Lagoon and the capital’s north coast. Swap the order according to low tide. Pajuçara and Ipioca need low tide in daylight; the south coast and the lagoon don’t.
Day 5: the São Francisco river mouth
The São Francisco River meets the sea at the southern tip of Alagoas, on the border with Sergipe. The river mouth trip usually includes a boat ride on the river and scenery of dunes and restinga (coastal scrub) vegetation. It’s a full day, with plenty of time on the road. To understand the route and the differences between the river mouth and the river’s canyons, read São Francisco river mouth and canyons.
- Leave early and confirm the return time with the operator.
- Bring a hat, sunscreen and water: there are long stretches in the sun.
- Check the Cadastur registration of the agency or transport company running the trip.
If you’d rather do a day trip along the state’s north coast instead of the river mouth, see Maceió and Maragogi and swap it in on this day.
Day 6: history and culture
After a day on the road, a lighter plan. Walk around Jaraguá, the historic port district, visit the Théo Brandão Museum of anthropology and folklore, and in the afternoon head to Marechal Deodoro, the first capital of the Province of Alagoas, with a historic center protected by Iphan. Check museum and church hours before setting out. More options in Maceió museums.
Day 7: free day
Use the last day for whatever you missed:
- Paripueira pools, if there’s low tide in daylight.
- Go back to your favorite beach of the week.
- Shopping and crafts, with filé lace at Pontal da Barra and the Pajuçara craft fair. See shopping and crafts in Maceió.
- Rest before your flight.
Example of reorganizing around the tide
Imagine that low tide in daylight falls only on days 3 and 4 of your week. In that case, move the Pajuçara pools to day 3 and Ipioca to day 4. The south coast goes to day 1, the lagoon to day 2, and the rest stays the same. No outing is lost; it just changes place.
Budget for a week
A week includes several paid trips and long journeys. To estimate spending on accommodation, food, transport and outings, see how much a trip to Maceió costs. Prices change with the season; always confirm with the service provider.
Safety throughout the week
- In the sea, watch the flags and lifeguards and don’t swim alone.
- On the reef, don’t step on the coral and don’t feed the fish.
- On boats, wear a life jacket.
- On the road, avoid driving at night on unfamiliar stretches.
- Stay hydrated and use sunscreen every day, cloudy days included.

Frequently asked questions
Isn't a week in Maceió too long?
No. With seven days you do the main outings, a long day trip and still have slack to adjust the plan to the tide, a rainy day or simply to rest.
How do I fit in the São Francisco river mouth?
It's a full-day trip with plenty of driving. Put it in the middle of the week, away from your flight day, and confirm the departure time and what's included with the operator.
Can I do the river mouth and the canyons on the same day?
They're different stretches of the São Francisco River and are usually separate trips. See the river mouth and canyons page to understand the options.
What is the free day for?
To revisit a beach you liked, make up for a trip missed because of the tide or rain, go shopping or rest before heading home.
