How Much a Trip to Maceió Costs: What Weighs on Your Budget
Understand where your money goes in Maceió and how to cut costs without relying on out-of-date price lists.
Updated on October 5, 2026 ✓ Information checked on October 5, 2026 adapted from the Portuguese original
There’s no single price for a trip to Maceió. The same itinerary can cost twice as much in January and half as much in September. That’s why this guide follows a simple rule: we only publish figures from official sources, with the month and year. Where there’s no official source, we explain what weighs on the budget and how to get quotes.
The five budget blocks
Think of the trip in five blocks and get quotes for each one separately:
- Getting to Maceió: airfare, fuel and tolls, or bus.
- Accommodation: nightly rates, fees and location.
- Local transport: taxi, ride-hailing, bus or rental car.
- Outings: natural pools, the lagoon, distant beaches.
- Food and extras: meals, beach shacks, crafts.
The first two are usually the largest. The other three vary with your style.
Airfare: what pushes it up
The price of airfare changes with:
- season: December, January, Carnival and July are the most expensive periods;
- advance booking: buying at the last minute usually costs more;
- day of the week: flights on lower-demand days tend to be cheaper;
- origin: cities with direct flights usually have more options.
People living in state capitals near the Northeast can compare with driving or the bus. See the options in how to get to Maceió.
Accommodation: location affects price
Staying right on the seafront along the city waterfront costs more than staying a few blocks back. Neighborhoods a little farther from the beach lower the nightly rate but raise transport costs. Compare the total cost, not just the rate. The where to stay in Maceió guide helps you choose an area.
Local transport: official prices
The only transport price with a recent official table found for Maceió is the taxi fare. According to Maceió City Hall (DMTT), with an adjustment published in February 2025:
| Item | Price (DMTT, Feb 2025) |
|---|---|
| Flag fall | R$ 4.79 |
| Per kilometer, rate 1 | R$ 3.34 |
| Per kilometer, rate 2 | R$ 4.00 |
| Waiting time per hour | R$ 15.82 |
Rate 2 applies from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., on Sundays and on municipal, state and federal holidays. Prices may change; check City Hall’s website before your trip.
City bus fares and ride-hailing prices vary, and ride-hailing changes with demand. To compare options, read getting around Maceió.
Outings: what changes the price
Jangada trips, boat trips on the lagoon and excursions to distant beaches are priced by each operator. The price varies with:
- type of transport (jangada, speedboat, van, bus);
- whether entry, lunch and boarding fees are included;
- time of year and demand.
We don’t publish prices for these trips because there’s no official table. Ask for the total price in writing, ask what’s included and check that the departure matches low tide in the tide table.
Food: where spending climbs
Eating in Maceió can be simple or expensive. What weighs on the budget:
- eating at beach shacks with a service charge and items sold by the portion;
- dining every night in the most touristy parts of the waterfront;
- seafood dishes, which cost more than the dish of the day.
Markets, bakeries and neighborhood restaurants bring the bill down. See what to order in typical food of Alagoas.
How to save
- Travel outside December, January, Carnival and July.
- Avoid long holiday weekends; the official 2026 calendar is in when to visit Maceió.
- Group outings by region so you don’t pay for two long journeys.
- Use the city bus for simple daytime trips.
- Ask the total price before ordering at the beach.
- Bring a water bottle and sunscreen from home.
How to build your estimate
- Set your dates and get airfare quotes for them.
- Get accommodation quotes in at least two areas.
- List the outings and ask operators for prices.
- Estimate taxi or ride-hailing based on the distance between your hotel and the attractions.
- Keep a margin for the unexpected, such as rain forcing a change of plan.
To fit everything into a calendar, follow the step-by-step trip planner.
