6-Day Maceió Itinerary
Six days to do everything without rushing and still choose between the Paripueira pools and a longer day trip along the north coast.
Updated on October 5, 2026 ✓ Information checked on October 5, 2026 adapted from the Portuguese original
Six days make the Maceió itinerary comfortable and open up room for an extra day on the north coast. You choose between the Paripueira natural pools, which are closer, and a full-day trip. As always, the order of the days comes from the Maceió tide table.

Days 1 to 5
The first five days follow the 5-day itinerary. With an extra day, spread the tide-dependent trips better: Pajuçara, Ipioca and, if you choose it, Paripueira. Avoid two consecutive days of strong sun on the reef when traveling with children or people sensitive to heat.
Day 6, option A: Paripueira
Paripueira Beach is in the municipality of the same name, north of the capital, and is known for the natural pools formed by the reefs of the Costa dos Corais APA. Visits to the reefs at Paripueira are authorized under the protected area’s rules. Go at low tide (see the table) and check with the operator that the trip is authorized.
On the way, Ipioca Beach and other northern beaches make good quick stops. More details in beaches of the Alagoas north coast.
Day 6, option B: a long day trip
If you’re up for some driving, you can use the sixth day for a trip along the state’s north coast, with more distant beaches and natural pools. To understand what to expect, driving time and how to organize it, read Maceió and Maragogi. This kind of trip usually takes the whole day, so don’t leave it for the last day before your flight.
How to choose between A and B
| Criterion | Paripueira | Long day trip |
|---|---|---|
| Time on the road | Less | More |
| Depends on the tide | Yes | Yes, when it includes pools |
| Good for small children | Easier | Tiring |
| Combines with another plan that day | Yes, northern beaches | Hardly |
Tips for six days
- Keep an evening free. Six straight days of outings are tiring. A night with nothing planned helps.
- Group by region. Do the south one day, the lagoon another and the north another. That cuts down on back-and-forth.
- Check Cadastur. Tour agencies and tourist transport companies must be registered with the Ministry of Tourism. See how to check in the tours and agencies directory.
- Accommodation: for six days, the city waterfront is worth considering for convenience. See where to stay in Maceió.
How to keep up the pace
Six days of sun, sea and road are more tiring than they seem. Alternate intense days with lighter plans: after the south coast, a lagoon day; after a long day trip, a free morning on the waterfront. Go to bed early before trips that start in the morning and allow one relaxed meal a day. That leaves room to change the order if the tide or weather changes.
Safety
In open sea, watch the flags and lifeguards. On boats, wear a life jacket. On the road, avoid driving at night on unfamiliar stretches and respect speed limits.
With a full week, the 7-day itinerary adds the São Francisco river mouth.

Frequently asked questions
What can I do on the sixth day in Maceió?
Two good options: the Paripueira natural pools, on the north coast, or a full-day trip to a more distant beach. Choose according to the tide and your pace.
Do the Paripueira pools depend on the tide?
Yes. Like those at Pajuçara and Ipioca, the visit only makes sense at low tide. Paripueira is in the Costa dos Corais APA, where visits to the reefs follow ICMBio rules.
Is it worth doing three natural pool trips?
It depends on your interest. For many people, Pajuçara and one of the northern trips are enough. If you'd rather vary, swap one of them for the lagoon, history or a rest day.
Are long day trips tiring?
Day trips to the state's north coast take the whole day, with plenty of time on the road. Put that day in the middle of the trip, not on the last day before your flight.
