Maceió works well for a trip for two. Distances are short, the waterfront is pleasant for walking, and there are plans ranging from the calm sea of the natural pools to sunset over the lagoon. The secret is to avoid crowds and fit your outings to the right tide.
Choose the right time
For couples, fewer crowds make a difference. According to INMET normals, there’s less rain from September to March. December, January, Carnival and July are vacation periods and pack the waterfront. September, October, November and March are usually the best balance.
Also avoid the long holiday weekends on the official calendar; the list is in when to visit Maceió.
Things to do together
Natural pools at low tide
The Pajuçara natural pools are the city’s best-known outing. At low tide, the water over the reefs is shallow and calm. Go on the first departures to find fewer people and check the tide table.
Sunset on the lagoon
Late afternoon on the shore of Mundaú Lagoon is one of the loveliest moments in the region. The trip around the lagoon and its islands and a stop at Pontal da Barra or Massagueira go well with a dinner of regional food.
A day on the south coast
Beaches such as Gunga and Barra de São Miguel make for a full day of sea, cliffs and coconut groves. Go early and time it with low tide. More options in beaches of the Alagoas south coast.
The quieter north coast
North of the city waterfront, beaches such as Garça Torta have a calmer feel, with fewer facilities and more nature. Good for escaping the bustle for a few hours.
A sunset walk on the waterfront
The promenade between Pajuçara, Ponta Verde and Jatiúca is flat and well lit. A late-afternoon walk followed by dinner is a simple, pleasant plan.
Dinner and a night out in Jaraguá
The historic buildings of Jaraguá house bars and cultural spaces with live music on some nights. It’s an interesting contrast with the waterfront. See Maceió nightlife.
Marechal Deodoro
The former capital of Alagoas, on the shore of Manguaba Lagoon, has churches and historic houses. An unhurried stroll around Marechal Deodoro goes well with lunch at Massagueira.

A three-day itinerary for two
| Day | Morning | Afternoon | Evening |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Natural pools at low tide | A beach on the city waterfront | Dinner and a waterfront stroll |

| 3 | Marechal Deodoro | Lagoon trip and sunset | Dinner with typical dishes |
Adjust the order to each day’s tide. For full versions, see the 3-day Maceió itinerary.
Honeymoons and special occasions
For a honeymoon or wedding anniversary, it’s worth combining beach days with time to rest. One suggestion is to alternate a long outing with a free day on the waterfront. Mention the occasion when booking accommodation and restaurants; some offer special touches, but each place has its own policy. Avoid scheduling the outing you’re most looking forward to on the last day, so you have leeway if the tide or weather doesn’t cooperate.
Where to stay
The Ponta Verde and Jatiúca waterfront has plenty of restaurants and bars and lets you do a lot on foot. If you prefer quiet, look for less busy areas and use a taxi or ride-hailing app at night. Compare in where to stay in Maceió.
Tips for couples

- Keep one day free, with no schedule, to rest.
- Try regional dishes such as sururu; see typical food of Alagoas.
- On special dates, book restaurants in advance.
- Protect yourselves from the sun even on cloudy days.
