Transfers, car rental, tourist transport and other services: what to check before hiring in Maceió.
Updated on October 5, 2026 ✓ Information checked on October 5, 2026 adapted from the Portuguese original
Besides accommodation and tours, a trip to Maceió usually involves transport and other services: an airport transfer, taxis, ride-hailing apps, car rental and transport for day trips. This page shows what to check before hiring. Businesses listed below appear only when there’s a verifiable public source.
Transfers and tourist transport
Companies that carry tourists on tours or transfers are tourist transport companies. Under Law No. 11,771/2008, they must be registered with the Ministry of Tourism (Cadastur).
- Ask for the Cadastur number and check it on the official website.
- Agree in writing on the meeting point, time and total price.
- Ask whether the price is per person or per vehicle and whether it includes extra luggage.
Getting to and from the airport is explained in Maceió airport.
Taxis and ride-hailing apps
On the urban waterfront, taxis and ride-hailing apps are the most practical ways to get around without a car. Check the license plate and the driver’s name before getting in. More details, including buses, in getting around Maceió.
Car rental
For car rental companies serving tourists, Cadastur is optional. So checking depends more on the contract:
- Insurance and deductible: understand what’s covered and the deductible in case of damage.
- Mileage: unlimited or limited.
- Inspection: photograph the car at pickup and return, including tires and windows.
- Fuel: check the return policy.
- Extra fees: additional driver, child seat, one-way drop-off.
Other useful services
- Laundries, pharmacies and supermarkets: concentrated in the waterfront neighborhoods and shopping centers. Pharmacies and medical care are in health in Maceió.
- Money and payments: cards and instant payments (Pix, Brazil’s instant payment system) are widely accepted, but carry some cash for beach shacks and small vendors.
- Internet: SIM cards and data plans are sold at the carriers’ stores. Check coverage on the beaches outside the capital.
From the airport to your accommodation
On arrival, decide before you get off the plane how you’ll leave the airport: a pre-booked transfer, taxi, ride-hailing app or rental car. If you booked a transfer, save the company name, the meeting point and a contact through the booking platform. Turn down offers of informal transport inside the terminal. The options and the route into the city are in how to get to Maceió.
Accessibility
People with reduced mobility should mention their needs when booking transfers, car rental or transport for tours. Ask about adapted vehicles, ramps or wheelchair space and confirm in writing.
Services for those working while traveling
If you plan to work remotely, check the internet speed with your accommodation before booking and keep a mobile data plan as a backup. On beaches outside the capital, the signal can vary.
Contracts and receipts
Whatever the service, agree on the total price and conditions in writing. Keep receipts and the conversation in which you booked the service. If there’s a problem, complain to the company first and, if it’s not resolved, contact the Procon (consumer protection agency) in your state or consumidor.gov.br.
