Accommodation in Maceió: How to Choose and Check

What to look for when choosing a hotel, guesthouse or apartment in Maceió, and how to check whether the property is registered.

Updated on October 5, 2026 ✓ Information checked on October 5, 2026 adapted from the Portuguese original

Maceió has accommodation spread along the urban waterfront, the northern coast and the beaches of neighboring towns. Choosing well depends on three decisions: where to stay, what type of accommodation and how to check that the place is legitimate. The businesses listed below this text appear only when there is a verifiable public source.

First, the area

  • Urban waterfront (Pajuçara, Ponta Verde, Jatiúca): close to where jangadas (traditional rafts) leave for the natural pools, with restaurants and services within walking distance. It’s the most practical choice for short stays.
  • Cruz das Almas and the capital’s northern coast: quieter, with longer trips to the waterfront and the center.
  • Beaches on the state’s southern and northern coasts: an all-day beach atmosphere, but more driving for other outings.

Types of accommodation

Type Good for Watch out for
Hotel Those who want full service and a 24-hour front desk Check what the nightly rate includes
Guesthouse (pousada) Those who prefer a smaller setting Cancellation policies vary
Vacation rental Families and long stays Building rules and payment method

How to check before booking

  1. Check Cadastur. Accommodation providers are required to be registered with the Ministry of Tourism. Search for the name or CNPJ (company registration number) on the official Cadastur website.
  2. Check the exact address. “Near the beach” can mean several blocks away. Use the map to see the real location.
  3. Read the cancellation policy and what the rate includes: breakfast, fees, parking, bed linen.
  4. Pay with a receipt. Prefer traceable payment methods and be wary of requests to transfer money to an individual without a contract.
  5. Keep the confirmation in writing, with dates, total price and the name of the person responsible.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Does the rate include breakfast? Is there a service charge or extra fees?
  • What are the check-in and check-out times? Can I store luggage?
  • Is there parking? Is it free, paid or subject to availability?
  • Does the room have a window, air conditioning and a view? Which floor?
  • Is there accessibility for people with reduced mobility?
  • Do children pay? From what age?
  • Are pets accepted?

Keep the answers in writing. They count as part of the agreement if something is different when you arrive.

Accommodation and your itinerary

Your choice of neighborhood should match your itinerary. If your plan includes several mornings at the Pajuçara natural pools, the urban waterfront saves travel. If you plan to spend days on the southern beaches, a base outside the capital may make sense. To plan the sequence of outings, see the 2- to 7-day itineraries.

High season and public holidays

In summer, school holidays and long holiday weekends, demand grows and prices rise. Book in advance and check the cancellation conditions. To estimate costs, see how much a trip to Maceió costs.

If something goes wrong

First file your complaint with the property itself, in writing. If it’s not resolved, contact the Procon (consumer protection agency) in your state or the public platform consumidor.gov.br, where registered companies respond to complaints.

For hotels and guesthouses

If you run accommodation in Maceió or the surrounding area, make a free listing in the guide. Having your Cadastur number speeds up the check.

Frequently asked questions

Do hotels and guesthouses need Cadastur registration?

Yes. Under Law No. 11,771/2008, accommodation providers must be registered with the Ministry of Tourism. Cadastur lookups are public and free.

Which neighborhood should I choose in Maceió?

Pajuçara, Ponta Verde and Jatiúca have most of the accommodation, restaurants and services on the urban waterfront. Neighborhoods farther north or beaches outside the capital offer more peace and quiet, with more travel. Compare them on the where-to-stay page.

Are vacation rentals safe?

They can be, as long as you book through channels that protect your payment, read the building's rules and are wary of requests for deposits outside the platform.

Why is there no list of recommended hotels?

The guide doesn't do rankings. Businesses appear below only when there's a verifiable public source, and a listing is not a recommendation.
